Henri caused flooding across parts of New Jersey, including areas of the state that don’t often flood.
Residents of the Rossmorr retirement community in Monroe Township spent part of Monday cleaning up after some flooding in the area. Gov. Phil Murphy toured the area Monday morning.
Jimmy Binckes tells News 12 New Jersey that he moved into his home less than a month ago. Flooding damaged his new carpets, paint and flooring. He says that he will have to replace it all.
There were similar instances throughout the neighborhood. Residents say that the community is not used to flooding and that many are without flood insurance.
“Power’s gone out a few times, but never saw water. I had no idea we were in suck a low area,” says Ed Condiracci.
“The water has receded in the house, but everything is lost, pretty much,” says Ralph Calaeria. “We have to replace the sheet rock and carpets and everything that’s west. The entire first floor.”
Calaeria was helping his mother-in-law who lives in the community. She is in her 90s.
Gov. Murphy has promised that the state will request emergency assistance from FEMA. The American Red Cross has also been out providing help.
