Heavy rain from evening thunderstorms could cause flooding
Parts of New Jersey could see severe thunderstorms for the second day in a row as a storm system moves across the state.
The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the northern half of New Jersey, north of Interstate 78.
News 12 New Jersey Meteorologist Dave Curren says the bulk of the storms should hit between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. The storms are expected to produce heavy rain, which could lead to flooding in low-lying areas.
The flooding and potentially strong winds could cause dangerous conditions outside, along with power outages. This comes just one day after another storm tore through the state, leaving thousands without power and parts of New Jersey under water.
Temperatures on Thursday reached 90 degrees in parts of the state – the sixth consecutive day that temperatures breached 90 degrees in New Jersey.
Curren says that the storm should move out by Thursday’s overnight hours, but that some scattered rain showers may continue into the early morning hours of Friday.
Friday will also see cloudy skies and scattered rain showers along the coast and southern areas of the state.
The weekend should see mostly sunny skies, but temperatures are expected to be warm in the mid- to upper-90s.
