Habitat for Humanity builds new home for veteran
A disabled veteran from Newark will be getting a new home, all thanks to Habitat for Humanity and AT&T.
Sgt. Adrian Simmons served 10 years in the Army and was discharged after sustaining injuries while serving in Panama. Following his return from service, Simmons had difficulty securing a home and applied to the Habitat for Humanity program.
With the help of volunteers and financial contributions from AT&T, the home will be built on the 100-block of Hawthorne Avenue in Newark.
"Home ownership is the fabric of the community and homeowners and our Habitat partners are thrilled to be part of the Habitat family," says Habitat for Humanity Newark Chapter CEO Jeffrey Farrell. "Homeownership is great because they become really invested in the community."
AT&T will also give Sgt. Simmons one year of free home security services when the house is complete.
