Graffiti artists leave their mark on NYC culture
Graffiti has become a staple of New York City since ever since the early 70s and 80s.
It's made its way from Philadelphia to the Big Apple and from the Bronx all the way to Brooklyn.
Graffiti has been making its mark everywhere from trains to the walls of store fronts.
Graffiti artists like tKid107, nicer, BG183 and Sien Ide all remember those days. Tkid107 says he started tagging and making graffiti as a kid. “Back then it was all about getting off the streets, being with your boys and having fun,” he says.
Now, almost 30 years later, they’ve made their love for graffiti into a business, with all of them bringing their unique style of drawing and tagging into an identity.
BG183 is one of the founders of a worldwide known graffiti crew called TATS CRU.
"We were just a bunch of kids that loved drawing and tagging all around New York City. We eventually became an icon in the community," he says.
Most of them still live in the very communities they grew up in.
