Governor Jon Corzine (D-NJ) outlined his property tax reform and relief plan in Trenton Friday. The plan is an ongoing effort to help New Jersey homeowners who pay the highest property taxes in the nation. Parts of the proposal include districts sharing services to lower costs and turning the current property tax rebate into a credit so homeowners can keep money in their pockets instead of waiting for a return. The governor told lawmakers that reform wouldn?t happen overnight. He also said it would take a year to fully fix the system and reduce the dependence on property taxes to fund schools. Corzine asked legislators to present him with proposals by the end of the year.
