General Motors, Nissan issue vehicle recalls
Auto companies General Motors and Nissan issued vehicle recalls this week.
General Motors is recalling about 4 million vehicles worldwide to fix an airbag software defect that las been linked to a death.
The recall involves the following vehicles:
-- 2014-2016 Buick LaCrosse, Chevrolet SS, Chevrolet Spark EV
-- 2014-2017 Buick Encore, GMC Sierra 1500, Chevrolet Corvette, Chevrolet Trax, Chevrolet Caprice police car and Chevrolet Silverado 1500
-- 2015-2017 Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Suburban, Chevrolet Silverado HD, GMC Yukon, GMC Yukon XL, GMC Sierra HD, Cadillac Escalade and Cadillac Escalade ESV.
GM says it will notify customers and update the software for free. GM dealers already have access to the software update so they should be able to repair the vehicles quickly, according to the company.
Nissan is also recalling about 134,000 vehicles due to a potential brake fluid leak that could cause a fire.
The recall covers certain 2015 to 2017 Murano SUVs and 2016 to 2017 Maxima large cars that are equipped with intelligent cruise control. Also included are some 2015 and 2016 Murano hybrids.
Nissan said in a statement that it will send owners a letter this month notifying them of what to do if the antilock brake light comes on. A follow-up letter will be sent once parts are available to make repairs.
Dealers will inspect the serial number on the brake actuator pump, and replace it for free if it has defective seals.
The Associated Press wire services contributed to this report.
