A Paramus school teacher killed in a school bus crash last week was laid to rest Thursday.
The funeral Mass was held for 51-year-old Jennifer Williamson-Kennedy at Our Lady of Visitation R.C. Church in Paramus.
Williamson-Kennedy was a teacher in the Paramus School District for over 20 years. Friends say that she wanted to be a teacher in the district because she went through Paramus schools herself as a child and loved her time there.
Her obituary notes that she "taught in the same grade and same classroom in East Brook Middle School for 20 years."
Loved ones said that Williamson-Kennedy was a beloved and talented teacher who was adored by her students. They said that teaching children was her life.
Williamson-Kennedy leaves behind a husband. Kevin Kennedy told News 12 New Jersey that he had been in love with his wife since the day that they met 24 years ago.
Williamson-Kennedy and 10-year-old student Miranda Vargas were killed when the school bus they were riding in collided with a dump truck on Interstate-80 in Mount Olive on May 17 while heading out on a school field trip. Over 40 other students and adults were injured.
The driver of the school bus, 77-year-old Hudy Muldrow, was charged Thursday with vehicular homicide in relation to the deaths. Morris County prosecutors say that Muldrow attempted to make an illegal U-turn on the highway because he missed a turn for his destination.
