Funeral arrangements have been announced for Jersey City Police Det. Joseph Seals, who was killed in Tuesday's shootout.
Det. Seals viewing is Monday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at McLaughlin Funeral Home at 625 Pavonia Ave. in Jersey City.
His funeral is scheduled for Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Saint Aedan's Church at 800 Bergen Ave. in Jersey City.
Officers lined the streets in Jersey City Wednesday to salute the fallen detective's body as it was driven away in a hearse. Det. Seals, 39, was the shooters' first victim Tuesday.
Seals was a father of five. He joined the Jersey City Police Department back in 2006, and was recently promoted to detective.
Det. Seals worked with the city's Cease Fire Unit and according to Chief Michael Kelly, was the leading officer in getting guns off the streets.
A 10-year-old who, even though is more than 1,000 miles away, is honoring Det. Seals -- while he runs.
"I'll be running with the blue line flag in Det. Seals’ honor,” says Zechariah Cartledge. “I'll be running seven laps around the track at my school for Det. Seals. I’ll be joined with Stanford PD and Seminole County running with me, and Orange County bagpipes will be playing as well as many agencies that will be cruising along the way."
Zechariah founded the organization Running 4 Heroes, and runs every mile for every first responder who is killed in the line of duty.
Zechariah ran two miles Wednesday night, one for Det. Seals and the other for an officer from the Houston, Texas area who was struck and killed earlier this week.
The Running 4 Heroes organization accepts donations and part of the money goes to purchasing American Flags.
He then gives the flags to the family of the first responder.
There is a GoFundMe set up for Det. Seals. If you would like to donate, click here.
The New Jersey State Policemen's Benevolent Association says they're getting notified about fake GoFundMe pages set up for Det. Seals, so representatives with the association are asking people to be careful if making a donation.
