(04/17/06) WAYNE ? Residents throughout New Jersey are throwing their hands up in disbelief over the skyrocketing cost of gas.

Residents at one gas station in Wayne saw the price of regular jump 5 cents to $2.66 per gallon at 3 p.m. Monday. Angry drivers say they can?t understand how the United States government could allow such a massive price spike to occur. Although many motorists have been voicing their displeasure to gas station attendants, they know their complaining will not change the situation.

Some residents have been driving longer distances to different gas stations in order to save a few pennies per gallon. In addition, many residents say they won't be going anywhere for summer vacation if prices continue to rise. Earlier in the day, senators Frank Lautenberg and Robert Menendez accused the OPEC oil cartel of driving up gasoline prices and price gouging. They are calling for President Bush to file a complaint with the World trade Organization against OPEC.
