Friends and family of two Jersey City teens killed by a hit-and-run driver are mourning their deaths.

A roadside memorial has been created for Dickinson High School students Elionel Jimenez, 15, and Alexander Rosas-Flores, 16. Both teens were struck by a car while riding a bike in Jersey City Wednesday afternoon.

“I feel like it's important because we got to show how much we cared for those that we lost,” says friend Smicker Figueroa.

Police say the teens were riding together on one bike when they were struck by a car allegedly driven by 20-year-old Rashaun Bell. Investigators say the boys were struck with such force that Rosas-Flores was thrown over a nearby fence onto Route 1/9 below the crash scene.

Jimenez was pronounced dead at the scene Wednesday. Rosas-Flores died Thursday afternoon.

Bell is said to have fled the scene on foot following the crash. Police have secured the car involved in the crash and have already detained two of the passengers. 

Friends of the two boys say that they cannot understand why anyone would leave the scene of such a terrible crash.

“If you see two kids on a bike, why can’t you just stop?” asks Evelise, a friend of the boys. “Don’t just run.”

Authorities have issued a warrant for Bell, who is expected to be charged with leaving the scene of a deadly accident.
