The Fort Lee School District has decided to make counseling services available to students and staff trying to cope with the loss of a 15-year-old student.
Alex Conlon was killed when authorities say 18-year-old Nicholas Vucci was driving drunk along Anderson Avenue Tuesday night. Police say the SUV left the road and crashed through a yard before hitting a telephone poll. Another passenger, Robert Martini, remains in critical but stable condition at a New York City hospital. Authorities say he was in the front passenger seat and was not wearing a seat belt. The other four passengers were not seriously hurt. Vucci sustained minor injuries.
School officials say they want to help all those impacted by the tragedy to move forward and deal with the grief process. They have enlisted the help of The Trauma Response Services of Care Plus, a service that has counselors on hand 24 hours a day.
Vucci has been charged with vehicular homicide.
