The Department of Transportation says Ford Avenue west of Route 1 will be closed for three days for drainage work beginning Wednesday.
The DOT is working to improve drainage along Route 1 and has installed a new ramp on Kelly Street. But in the process of improving the road, residents say the construction is creating dangerous and inconvenient detours, which disturb their community.
According to Kelly Street residents, drivers disregard the detour signs, frequently drive down the street in the wrong direction and ignore stop signs. Neighbors say the area is now noisy and the roads are almost always backed up with traffic.
The new Kelly Street ramp and Ford Avenue west of Route 1 will be closed in both directions from Wednesday at 9 a.m. until Friday at 3:30 p.m. Beginning Jan. 30, Ford Avenue will close for three months and Kelly Street will become a two-way street.
