The Garden State was able to avoid what was expected to be its first major storm of 2008.

Originally, forecasters predicted the storm could bring up to 9 inches of snow to New Jersey.

Due to the storm moving faster than anticipated and warmer temperatures, the Garden State wound up seeing more rain than snow. In northern New Jersey, snow totals were between 2 and 4 inches. The rest of the state saw between 1 and 3 inches of snow, with 1 inch being the most common.

The small amount of snow that did form on the ground actually started melting Monday afternoon due to the warmer temperatures, so residents quickly put away their shovels. Despite the lack of snow, plows and salt trucks were ready to go if there was a good amount of white stuff on the ground.

Motorists are still being urged to use caution while driving since area roadways may be dangerous due to the weather conditions. Related information: weather forecast
