A ceremony was held in Newark Sunday to commemorate the first ever inductees into the New Jersey Hall of Fame.

Fifteen celebrities who hail from New Jersey were given the distinction of being the first in the hall. The distinguished Garden State inductees able to attend included Yogi Berra, Bruce Springsteen and Buzz Aldrin.

Other inductees are all icons in their field. The 2007 Hall of Fame class includes Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison, Harriet Tubman and Frank Sinatra. Rounding out the inductees are Toni Morrison, Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf, Vince Lombardi, Clara Barton, Meryl Streep, Bill Bradley, Malcolm Forbes and Robert Wood Johnson II.

Hundreds of fans lined the red carpet, hoping to catch a glimpse of the celebrities arriving. Aldrin, one of the first men to walk on the moon, dismissed any bad perceptions people may have of the state.

"In the other parts of the country, they just don't understand New Jersey," said Aldrin. "They underestimate this wonderful state."
