Fire chief: At least 2 families displaced as large fire engulfs Sayreville apartment complex

A large fire that grew to three alarms is now out at the Skytop Gardens Apartments in Sayreville.

A large fire that grew to three alarms is now out at the Skytop Gardens Apartments in Sayreville.
According to the fire chief, the fire broke out around 4 a.m.
The fire chief says two units are a complete loss, and at least two families have been displaced. Fire crews were able to rescue a pet bird.
“Our manpower is great,” says Fire Chief Anthony Mercado. “We had about 50 firefighters total from Sayreville and surrounding municipal middle text county units that assisted us. We had about five engines, two ladder trucks and a rescue truck.”
There are no serious injuries to report.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this point.
