Man killed in fiery crash involving garbage truck in Pequannock Township

All northbound and southbound lanes on Route 23 have reopened after being closed for several hours on Monday morning.

A crash between a car and a garbage truck on Route 23 north in Pequannock Township left one man dead Monday morning.
Pequannock police say the driver of the garbage truck and a good Samaritan both removed the unconscious man from the Chevy Traverse prior to police arrival. Rescue efforts were unsuccessfully attempted by patrol officers and medical personnel, according to police. No passengers were involved.
All lanes on Route 23 have reopened after being closed for several hours on Monday morning.
There is no word yet on what caused the crash, and the identities of both drivers remain unknown.
