RUTHERFORD - Footballs decorated by local artists are on display all over Rutherford as part of a fundraising project called "Footballs For Food."

The collection of 23 custom-painted footballs are 2 feet tall and are in store windows all over town.

They will be auctioned off Saturday night for the project tied to the Super Bowl and proceeds will benefit the Rutherford Community Food Pantry and 55 Kip Center, an adult recreation center.

"We wanted to do something to recognize this huge event coming to our backyard," says Rutherford Big Game Committee member Carolyn Smith, "and we thought the best way to do that was to give back to people in our community who really need it."

The footballs will be auctioned at the Elks Lodge in Rutherford.
