LONG BEACH ISLAND - Ocean County's only professional theater has raised its curtains again after being severely damaged during Sandy.

The Surflight Theatre is a Long Beach Island landmark that welcomed audiences for 65 years before Sandy struck.

Executive director Ken Myers says the Surflight sustained $750,000 in damage to the building and lost contents including thousands of costumes.

The theater has opened its doors, but is still waiting to fill the seats with patrons. Local theatergoers have been enthusiastic, but Myers believes there is a perception that Long Beach Island is still not open for business.
