BLOOMFIELD - Officials in Bloomfield have taken on a project to prevent flooding in one Sandy-ravaged town before it starts.

Large trees along the Third River came crashing down during the storm and blocked portions of the water.

The Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission has decided to remove the trees that pose a potential flooding threat to areas of the Garden State Parkway, Broad Street and surrounding homes and businesses.

The group is using a 30-ton crane to lift the trees from the river.
