SEASIDE HEIGHTS - The Seaside Heights roller coaster swept into the sea by Sandy is set to be demolished this week.

Ocean County officials say demolition on the Star Jet roller coaster will likely begin tomorrow. Seaside Heights Mayor Bill Akers says the removal is a sign of progress that the Jersey Shore needs.

The Casino Pier roller coaster has been in the water since the storm in October, becoming an iconic symbol of Sandy's destruction.

The debris embedded in the sand underwater will also be removed. It is unknown how long the project will take to finish.
