OCEAN GROVE - A large doll that was placed on an exposed beam at the end of what's left of the Ocean Grove Fishing Pier now has its own fan following.

The sailor figurine, known as Captain Salty, has become all the rage on social media sites, and people are coming from near and far to get a snapshot.

During the day, the large doll might not seem very frightening, but at night it can be startling.

"It's kind of ominous," says Jess Firestone, of Kinnelon. "And from afar it looked like an actual person was there so that was kind of putting off at first."

A plaque put up next to Captain Salty reads, "Down the shore everything's alright."
