SEASIDE HEIGHTS - Volunteers from Operation Photo Rescue set up inside the Home Depot store at Seaside Heights to offer their services to families with irreplaceable photos damaged by Sandy.

Hundreds of photos were processed at the event. Volunteers hope to restore them to their original appearance.

Photographer Vicki De Vico is volunteering to do some of the photo repair work because she finds the experience rewarding. "The emotional payoff is knowing that somebody is getting back a piece of their memory,” De Vico says. "A piece of their life that they wouldn't have."

Restoring an image can take anywhere from a few days to several weeks, depending on the amount of damage.
