NEWARK - Several Newark families are still recovering from Sandy despite the fact that they were situated miles from the coast.

The Passaic River overflowed its banks when Sandy struck, leaving homes and cars flooded on Esther Street.

Residents say their insurance companies gave them a substantial payout, but that they've been forced to use that money to pay their mortgage payments.

Many property owners also applied for state relief, but are still waiting for city approval.
