HOBOKEN - The FEMA flood maps released this week have impacted urban areas as well as shore communities.

Many more Hoboken homeowners will be required to buy into the federal flood insurance program because of the new standards.

Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer says the policies will be expensive, and residents may have difficulties collecting if there is a flood.

Zimmer says the best thing her city can do is take away the high risk of flooding and the insurance premiums that come with it.

"You pay into the system, you pay year after year after year, and when it comes to flooding, you don't get anything back," Zimmer says. "And I too am in that situation."

Zimmer says she expects that around 10 percent more Hoboken residents will be included in the final flood map and will be required to buy flood insurance to obtain a mortgage.
