KEYPORT - A marina owner in Keyport says that Superstorm Sandy has spurred the need for dredging to keep local businesses afloat.

The Wagner family, owners of the Wagner Marina since 1968, says they have lost 50 percent of their customers since the late-October storm last year.

They say built up silt and debris from the storm has boaters staying away from the docks in the Matawan Creek and Raritan Bay. The family is hoping the area will be dredged so more boats can reach the marina and gas up.

They are hoping to hear from the Department of Environmental Protection or the Army Corps of Engineers.

The family says its damages from Sandy totaled $1.2 million.
