LITTLE EGG HARBOR - Many flood-damaged homes devastated by Sandy in the southern Ocean County community of Little Egg Harbor remain vacant.

A sign on Lake Superior Drive in the Mystic Island section of the township reads, "One year Not Strong yet."

Some families like Fred and Marge Schaffer are still living in trailers. "As far as the community goes, I'd say 80 percent of the people haven't even started yet," says Fred Schaffer. "Still a long way to go."

The Schaffers plan to knock their house down and put up a raised modular home, but they are fighting with their insurance company.

Sandy flooded most homes in the area with water from the lagoon that feeds into Great Bay. Only a handful of houses in the neighborhood have already been raised.
