JERSEY CITY - Lawmakers from the State Assembly and State Senate held a Sandy-themed public forum Monday night for those still struggling to recover from the superstorm.

Many residents voiced their frustrations regarding the recovery process during the forum at the Jersey City council chambers at City Hall. Members of the two committees say they plan to take what they've heard back to Trenton and work toward improving the situation.

The first meeting was in Atlantic City last month and committee members say they are already working toward addressing complaints they heard there.

One lawmaker from Monday’s hearing says part of the reason New Jersey is being forced to jump through hoops and red tape to get grant money and FEMA assistance is because many Katrina victims spent the money they got for rebuilding on luxury items.
