LONG BRANCH - FEMA has sent out the first round of letters to Superstorm Sandy victims to ask them if they want to reopen their claims

The organization says it will review more than 140,000 claims after fraud allegations emerged involving some FEMA engineers and inspectors. About half of those claims are from New Jersey residents.

According to FEMA, the homeowners who did not get the maximum amount under their National Flood Insurance Policy will qualify to have their claims reopened.

Homeowners who get the letters from FEMA have 90 days to file another claim. The case will be reviewed for possible adjustment. It will take about three months to review the case.

Homeowners who are in litigation over their Sandy settlements do not qualify for this additional review.
