LONG BRANCH - Homeowners in the northern section of Long Branch say Sandy left behind much more than the destruction of homes and businesses.

Several homes by the intersection of Manahasset Avenue and Long Banch Avenue remain vacant.

Neighbors say every time there's a hard rain, garbage that was carried into the Shrewsbury River by Sandy washes up on their streets. They say the river is so polluted, they won't go crabbing anymore.

"It's almost like the storm blew through here yesterday because not that much has changed, the plant life is not growing," says Tom Wakeham.

Wakeham says progress in rebuilding is slow. The home behind his was leveled just a week ago and two homes next to that property remain vacant.
