ELIZABETH - Businesses in Elizabeth are looking for ways to better prepare themselves for future storms.

Almost a year after the superstorm, Mayor Christian Bollwage hosted a press conference at the heavily damaged Veteran's Park.

The event was held to promote preparedness among residents and business owners.

One local company says it's already made several changes to minimize damage if faced with another storm. Joseph Denicholas says his company is taking a more proactive approach should he be faced with floodwaters.

"We're going to open up the doors and just let the water flow through,” he says. “We've moved all of our telecommunication and data infrastructure to the second floor so that if water comes in on the first floor again we won't be as affected as we were this time."

City officials are hopeful they'll reopen Veteran's Park early next year.
