Christie joins Seaside Heights' Hugh Boyd School in opening doors to students for first time since Sandy

SEASIDE HEIGHTS - An elementary school nearly destroyed by Sandy celebrated its reopening Thursday, and Gov. Chris Christie helped welcome students for their first day back.

The Hugh Boyd School in Seaside Heights was heavily damaged in the storm. Repairs to the building cost more than a million dollars.

Principal Chris Raichle says the neighborhood has come a long way since the storm. "We got a new playground across the street, a new school. The community is coming together, everyone supporting the cause, a great thing," he says.

Christie says there is only one school damaged by Sandy that hasn't reopened, an elementary school on Long Beach Island. The governor expects that school to open in March.

Christie also appeared at a school opening in Moonachie Thursday.
