SEASIDE HEIGHTS - Casino Pier in Seaside Heights is set to open this weekend, and many people still wonder if the pier will ever be as large as it once was or if the iconic roller coaster will be brought back. Casino Pier says it’s trying.

"We would have loved to have it this summer,” says Maria Mastoris, spokeswoman for Casino Pier. “But the state takes a while. We're still trying to get the approvals going."

Mastoris tells News 12 New Jersey that the company is still waiting to hear back from the state about its application filed last fall.  The company wants to rebuild onto the parts of the pier that were damaged by Sandy, while expanding the pier over the beach instead of over the ocean again.

"Just in case another hurricane happens, it's safer to go widthwise,” says Mastoris.

Mastoris is also hopeful approvals will come in soon so construction can start in the fall. Visitors are also hoping for a new coaster to replace the iconic Jet Star.

Casino Pier will be open this weekend to host its Annual Easter Egg Hunt.
