LONG BRANCH - Construction on a bridge that connects Long Branch to Oceanport has frustrated business owners who depend on it for customers.
The work to repave the Branchport Avenue Bridge, which began April 1, was supposed to be completed by May 20. Monmouth County says work was delayed because of the poor condition of the bridge.
Business owners question the timing of the work, saying this is the busiest time of the year for many of them. Many shops were devastated by Sandy and were hoping for a busy spring season.

"There was no concern for any of the businesses," says Mike Conte, of Hannah's Laundromat. "I mean, if the bridge had to be fixed, that's fine, but the bridge didn't have to be fixed right now."
Monmouth County says the concrete will be poured soon and then it will take time to cure.
