LITTLE FERRY - Low-income families in Moonachie and Little Ferry can expect some help from new Red Cross grants announced Wednesday.

Today, the Red Cross announced a $600,000 grant to two organizations, the Volunteer Center of Bergen County and the Greater Bergen Community Action.

The money is expected to help around 500 low-income families in the towns of Moonachie and Little Ferry who are still rebuilding after Superstorm Sandy.

Some of the money will be used to help volunteers assess storm victims’ needs, while the rest will go toward reconstructing at least 30 homes.

"It's massively important because recovery is complicated. You have insurance, timing, rebuilding, contractors, all of these factors. So, every dollar counts,” says Matthew Nelessen, of the Red Cross.

The grants are being funded through donations to the Red Cross.
