BELMAR - Beach badge sales in Belmar were down 7.5 percent this year from 2012.

That amounted to about $227,000 less collected for the summer. The borough points out that even though beach badge sales were lower this year than last year, they were still quite strong overall.

Business administrator Colleen Connolly says the rainy weather in June was the borough's real challenge.

"When the weather cooperated we had a great year," Connolly says. "It was our fifth highest grossing year ever! So to have that be our first summer back from Sandy was really excellent."
