SPRING LAKE - Residents of Sandy-battered Spring Lake will soon be getting money for flood damage prevention.

Gov. Chris Christie attended a press event in the borough Thursday, along with New Jersey Environmental Protection Commissioner Bob Martin.

Spring Lake will be getting $3.5 million for a mitigation project at Wreck Pond. Gov. Christie says that the grant could help prevent future disasters.

"It's funded by a $50 million grant from the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development," the governor says. "The program focuses on helping municipalities with critical risk reduction initiative such as flood risks and enhancing the stormwater management systems we have throughout the state."

Gov. Christie also expressed optimism about government cooperation for storm recovery on all levels, including federally.
