PORT MONMOUTH - The first phase of a multimillion-dollar shore resiliency project is now complete.

Rep. Frank Pallone held a press event in Port Monmouth Monday to let residents know about the progress of the project.

When the project is fully complete, the Jersey Shore will be bigger and better equipped to handle storms such as Superstorm Sandy.

"I never want to say that Sandy has an upside, but in this case it does to some extent because even though there was all this damage that occurred to Port Monmouth...we finally got the funding to do the Flood Control Project here," says Pallone.

The second phase of the project is expected to begin next spring. The whole project could stretch into 2019. It is estimated to cost $100 million to complete.
