A nasty stomach virus is hanging around and re-infecting students at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Florham Park.
FDU officials say the norovirus outbreak started last week. In that time, at least 328 students and staff became infected. At least 22 more students reported having symptoms of the stomach flu Thursday and left school early before the start of spring break. Health officials attribute the high number of cases to people who are getting the virus for a second time.
The university plans to disinfect the school while students are away for spring break. Extra cleaning crews will be on hand to disinfect public buildings on a daily basis. FDU officials also asked students to clean their dorm rooms before leaving. They also want students to take their bed linens home for washing.
Health officials are warning people who are getting over the virus to avoid contact with others for at least 24 to 48 hours.
