A group of kids in Fairfield is helping to design and plan the future of their town.

Fifth-graders from Jennings Elementary School participated in a do-it-yourself workshop with the town's Strategic Planning Committee Thursday, offering their visions for the town.

The students were chosen because they take advantage of the town's assets including its schools, libraries and parks.

It’s part of a larger town-wide public brainstorm project to get feedback from residents and business owners, with the help of a Chicago development group using workshops and questionnaires.

This will help local officials make decisions to reflect those desires.

“We hope to get as much as input as we can to find out what people really want in Fairfield because ultimately that vision of what we want Fairfield to be, will shape how are local government creates its budgets, spend its money and focuses its resources,” said Stephanie Schechter, of the planning committee.

On Nov. 7 and 8, there will be day and night community workshops to get the public's thoughts.
