Emergency crews responded to an underground explosion near Newark?s airport Saturday, causing headaches for some travelers.
The explosion is believed to have been caused by an underground cable failure. The blast did not affect flights, and no power outages have been reported.
Responders did block off Lindbergh Road, however, where a Hertz rental car office is located. People trying to return cars to the spot experienced major problems.
Lewis Bartrand told News 12 New Jersey that he had been waiting for more than two hours. The traveler believed he was in danger of missing his flight.
Hertz officials say anyone returning a car to the Newark location should call the national office at 1-888-777-6095.
