As the temperatures drop outside, the cost for home heating can increase. An expert is offering homeowners some tips to save money on heat.
Deborah Fineman, of Mitchell Supreme Fuel, gives basic energy audits for customers. Fineman says the first thing she tells residents is to move big furniture pieces away from radiators. She also suggests using insulated covers over air-conditioning units.
Fineman says homeowners should use their programmable thermostats to set different temperatures for specific times of the day, such as when people are sleeping or at work.
According to Fineman, a lot of small steps can save many homeowners 10 percent on their heating bills.
