Ex-NJ Gov. McGreevey's gay lifestyle revealed in tell-all book
Former New Jersey Governor James McGreevey?s tell-all book hit bookstands Tuesday.
McGreevey?s memoir ?The Confession? includes details of his life, including his tenure as governor and his homosexuality. McGreevey has acknowledged that his book contains some "messy, shameful, sinful" passages, including details of his relationship with an Israeli that he says began when he was governor and a brand new father. However, the former governor says he felt he had to come clean about his personal and political life.
The release of the book coincided with the airing of his interview with Oprah Winfrey. In that interview, McGreevey discussed back-alley trysts behind a Washington, D.C. synagogue and anonymous sexual contacts with scores of men in bookstores and rest stops.
McGreevey left office amid a gay sex scandal two years ago. He hopes his new book leads to public acceptance of his openly gay lifestyle.
McGreevey held his first book signing Tuesday in Woodbridge, NJ where he previously held office as mayor. McGreevey was well received at the event. A large crowd turned out to hear him speak and wait in long lines for him to autograph a copy of the book.
