Political mud slinging came to a halt Tuesday as New Jersey voters cast their ballots in the U.S. Senate race.
Democratic U.S. Senator Robert Menendez faces state Senator Tom Kean Junior in a campaign filled with personal attacks and fueled by discontent over the Iraq war. Kean has tried to portray Senator Menendez as a corrupt politician. Menendez has countered by trying to link Kean to President Bush and the war in Iraq.
Both New Jersey candidates for U.S. Senate cast their votes early and proclaimed their confidence in winning.
