An elderly Orange woman and her daughter facing eviction have been given a last-minute reprieve.

The woman, Susie Johnson, and her daughter, Cynthia, say their problems began back in 2003 when their original mortgage lender, Washington Mutual, closed its doors. They say they made a year's worth of payments using money orders but the bank had no record of it.

The loan was picked up by Wells Fargo, who says the Johnsons failed to make mortgage payments for four years. The Johnsons say it's because the bank wouldn't accept their money. Wells Fargo released a statement saying: "We work hard to keep people in their homes when they encounter difficulties. In Ms. Johnson's case, we were limited in discussing work-out options with her due to her multiple bankruptcy filings."

The Essex County Sheriff's Department arrived at the home today to serve the eviction. Several friends and family members gathered at the home to protest the planned eviction.

The sheriff's department says it will give the family six more weeks to sort out the situation in court. The Johnsons say they've retained legal counsel and hope to arrive at a resolution through the courts.
