Efforts made to ditch Trump name from residential buildings in NJ, NY
Some residents in New York City and New Jersey are asking to remove Donald Trump's name from their residential buildings.
Last year, Eric Fleming started a Facebook page to take Trump's name off the Trump Plaza Residences in Jersey City. Fleming, who does not live in the building, made the request after Trump made comments about Muslims in Jersey City allegedly cheering when buildings fell on Sept. 11. After the comments were made, a councilman in Jersey City introduced a measure to encourage the building to take down Trump's name, but the bill was withdrawn before a vote happened.
Fleming is also supporting residents of two Trump-named buildings in New York who are also petitioning to ditch the name.
"The brand it used to have, one of luxury, now it's one of intolerance and division and ignorance, and I think that's why you are seeing people wanting to remove his name from their buildings," Fleming says.
News 12 spoke to people who live in the Trump Plaza Residences about the name. None of them wanted to go on camera. Opinions were mixed on whether Trump's name should be taken down.
Donald Trump does not own the Trump Plaza Residences. He licenses his name for use.
