He was supposed to protect the public from fires, but now a Dunellen volunteer firefighter is charged with arson.
Steve Harmon, 18, faces four counts of aggravated arson in four suspicious fires over the last few weeks. Police have not disclosed what evidence led to Harmon's arrest.
Former Dunellen firefighter Joe McKenna, who lives less than a block away from the suspect, believes he is one of Harmon's victims.
"It's very disheartening to see your garage damn near flattened," McKenna said. "There's no electricity to the garage, it couldn't be wiring or anything like that."
Harmon, who reportedly joined the fire department while still in high school, is out on $100,000 bail. He is awaiting a court date.
