Drivers facing more expensive ride on Turnpike, Parkway
For the second time in three years, toll rates have risen on the New Jersey Turnpike and Garden State Parkway. Tolls increased 53 percent on the Turnpike and 50 percent on the Parkway yesterday morning.

For the second time in three years, toll rates have risen on the New Jersey Turnpike and Garden State Parkway.
Tolls increased 53 percent on the Turnpike and 50 percent on the Parkway yesterday morning. The hikes are the second part of a two-phase toll increase adopted by the New Jersey Turnpike Authority under Gov. Jon Corzine in October 2008.
Under the new rates, the price of driving the length of the turnpike goes from $9.05 to $13.85 for cash-paying customers. E-ZPass customers, who had paid $6.80, will now pay $10.40. Two-axle trucks now pay $28.45, up from $18.60.
The New Jersey Turnpike Authority sought the rate increases to fund $7 billion in improvements over the next 10 years.
