A group of teenagers say a motorist ran over their bikes in Commack -- and the incident was caught on camera.
It happened at the intersection of Vanderbilt Parkway and Commack Road.
The teens say they were riding on their bikes when a motorist, who was stopped at a red light, proceeded to go through the light and hit one of them.
The teenagers then filmed the confrontation on Instagram. Video shows two bikes being run over by the driver.
They say one of them suffered a sprained wrist, but no one else was injured.
One teenager who spoke with News 12 said there was no aggression on their part.
"No, there was no aggression. We were just riding, crossing the street and I guess he was mad because there was no sidewalk because we were under a bridge and we had to share the lane. We were going and then he just hit them. And when we went to the car to see if the kid was OK, he just took off," said one of the teens.
Police say they received 20 911 calls from other drivers saying there were confrontations between several motorists and the bicyclists. The driver called police after he drove away and told them what happened. Police say he is cooperating with them.
Some towns and villages are taking action against these so-called "ride outs." Babylon Village just passed a law allowing code enforcement officers to seize the bikes of reckless riders under 16 and ticket older teenagers.
Authorities say none of the bicyclists have filed a police report. No charges have been filed.
