A thunderstorm caused major power outages, uprooted trees, and caused power lines to come down across Fairfield Monday.

Downed trees and power lines created a dangerous situation on Duck Farm Road off Mill River Road in Fairfield, where there were about 2,000 reported outages Monday. At least four trees were uprooted on a Mill River Road property, the homeowner says. 

A passing thunderstorm wreaked havoc on the area around 4:30 p.m. and neighbors who live in the area say they were shocked by the damage it caused.

"I heard a big bomb and I looked and didn't know the tree fell, but I saw my wires coming down in my backyard. And that was it. After it calmed down, I came out and we saw those trees," says Steve Kyratsous, of Fairfield.

On Brookside Drive off of Hill Brook Lane, a woman told News 12 she believes a large tree may have fallen on her car while she was driving through.

The woman escaped without injuries. She says she doesn't remember what happened, but all of a sudden lightning struck, her windshield was smashed and she was covered in broken glass from her windshield. She says she's lucky to be alive. 

United Illuminating crews say only around 300 people are still without power Tuesday.
