Advocates for the poor are urging Morris County officials to do something about the lack of public transportation, specifically in the town of Dover.
Some of the town?s poorer families say they spend most of their income on taxicabs because of the lack of public transportation. One day care representative says she often sees parents either walking to the center or taking a cab to drop their children off.
NJ Transit runs the Morris County Metro, which has four buses going through Dover. The agency acknowledges more needs to be done and says it is working on the issue. NJ Transit says it currently does not have funds for new bus routes in Morris County, but it plans to meet with county officials in the next few weeks.
